2022 Monroe Pop Fest – Review

This past weekend I went to The Monroe Pop Fest in Monroe, MI. I hadn’t been to this con since 2019!

I’ve been going to The Monroe Pop Fest since 2016. Back then it was called The Monore Comic Con. In those years this con has always brought in lots of people. Lots of foot traffic.

On another note, since 2017 I’ve always wanted to go to the Cincinnati Comic Expo. The bad thing was, every year both of these cons were on the same weekend.

In 2020 I bought an Artist Alley table for The Moroe Pop Fest AND the Cincinnati Comic Expo because this was the first year they were not on the same weekend. Sadly, we all know how 2020 went.

In 2021, both cons were on the same weekend – again. So I decided to go to the Cincinnati Comic Expo this time. My AA table for the 2022 Monroe Pop Fest was my rollover from 2020.

Now that you know a little backstory, here’s what I think is the 2022 Monroe Pop Fest. It was…OK. First off, they added a “preview” day on Friday from 5-9. I didn’t want to go because this con is about a 1 hour and 45-minute drive from my house and this meant I would have to drive up there….twice! But I went. I thought the Friday hours were unnecessary. Every 3-day con that I went to had there Friday hours usually from 3-9 or 2-8. In any case, Friday is usually 6 hours. For Monroe, it was only 4.

I also believe the attendance was down a little too. There was still lots of foot traffic and people were happy to be there but It just seemed a little slower than in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Finally, I only sold 1 comic too.

I want to make this very clear. Gary puts on a great show. I still love The Monroe Pop Fest and I will return to this show again in the future it’s just that…I think I’ll skip next year and try again in 2024.

Again, it’s a great show. I like it but I felt the attendance was down from previous years. It’s also possible that the people that were there just weren’t buying. lol

Tercona New #9

Back in June I published my latest comic, #5 Coming Out To A Friend. This is the cover to that comic.

Tercona and Britney help stop an 80 year old woman named Madge from being robbed. When the fight is over Madge mistakes Tercona & Britney for being a couple. This doesn’t sit well with Britney. As the girls walk home, Britney opens up about her sexuality, her home life and how she doesn’t like being called a ‘side-kick’. She tells Paige that she needs more friends she can talk to because it’s hard for her to open up to just anyone. We soon find out why she shows so much anger, rage and anonymously when she fights.

June was Pride month so I made it a FREE READ (like a web comic) because this is an LGBT comic.

We are past June now. After carful thought, I decided it would be best to make sure anyone could read this – anywhere in the world! So as of today, you can read this comic all the time as a FREE READ web comic on this website. All you have to do to read comic #5 – Coming Out To A Friend – for free – is click on the rainbow below.

Now please keep in mind, I do want to make money by selling this comic and if you’re a comic book collector I can’t “sign” a web comic.

I just thought the message of this comic would be better received if anyone could read it.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, not all my comics are a FREE READ web comic. With comics #2, #3 & #4 you can read small a sample (the first 5 or 6 pages) of those comics.

You can only read comics #1 and #5 for free , like a web comic on Tercona.com.

Tercona News #2

In any normal year, right about now, I’d be telling about a comic con I attended this past weekend – but this isn’t any normal year. This year we had to deal with a pandemic. So there’s no live comic cons. (Well, I did go to one back in March. Wizard World in Cleveland but after that, all of my cons were canceled for 2020.)

This year I’m been doing a lot of on-line comic cons. Some of them are not really cons but more like a YouTube channel that supports independent comic book creators so they interviewed me to talk about Tercona and other things.

Below are a few videos I did recently.

Tercona News

Welcome to my brand new Tercona website!

Hi. My name is Frank James Bailey. I’m a voice actor and the creator of the Tercona book series. There are now 3 novels and 3 comic books in the series with more comic books on the way.

I created Tercona as a “nod” to my daughter Paige. When she was 7 (many years ago) she told me “Daddy, I don’t like princesses anymore. I like superheros!” So that’s how the seed of Tercona was planted in my head. In return, I named Tercona’s alter ego after her.

Browse the “Books and Comics” section to find out about each novel and comic book in the series.

Read about all the characters on the “Characters” page  and you can also read a “sneak peek” of each comic book too.

If you like what you see, head over to the “Shop” page to purchase the comics, books and prints that are for sale.

FYI…there is a VERY limited run of the variant covers for comics # 1, # 2 & # 3. Only 50, and I’ve already sold a few. Once their gone, their gone for good.

The newest comic book is comic #3 Tercona: Burmese.

As Tercona and her sidekick – oops, sorry – her friend Britney are patrolling the streets of Bayville Heights they encounter a new villain named Burmese. He’s 7 feet tall, 300 lbs and he’s after one thing, Tercona. They find out the hard way that he has the ability to mind control people. He forces Britney to fight Tercona! One question remains, is he working alone or does he work for someone?
